Post-1973 Developments:
Bishops Close

Bishops Close, intended as bungalows for the elderly, was under construction in 1973, just after the Appreciation was published. Peter Fell, author of the Appreciation, comments on the view looking north from Rosemary Lane, that "the proposed old people's bungalows to be built above this corner will have to be of the highest architectural quality to succeed. The siting above the road will be difficult to handle, but a 'fragmented' group will allow the scale to be kept down to match nos 3 and 5".
At least one of the residents (now in her twentieth home, so she's in a position to judge) describes Magna Housing Association as a helpful and efficient landlord, recently replacing the original draughty wooden window frames with double-glazed units; and another newly-arrived resident still can't get over the extent of the storage space available in what seems from the outside to be a fairly conventional small bungalow.
