4 and 5 Grove Lane

(Scheduled in the 1974 Village Plan as a building which the Secretary of State had agreed to include in the statutory list)

Here is one part of the village where the trees have grown up so much since 1973 (despite many elms dying in the interval) that it is next to impossible to photograph these two houses from the original viewpoint. Both houses have been extended since the Appreciation ~ the single-storey extension on the north (right-hand) end has become a two-storey extension to no 4, which may (along with some modern windows and a 1997 loft conversion) explain why the building is not listed.

The "ruined wall at south side with corrugated iron shed" became a new entrance ~ and a significant extension ~ to no 5 in 1974, shortly after the Appreciation was published.
