West Street fountain

(In the Appreciation ~ mysteriously ~ as "Buildings behind Barn next to 30 West Street")

(Grade II listed as "Water Outlet with arch-surround")

It isn't clear why the description in the Appreciation refers initially to buildings which are not visible from the street and are not featured in the photograph, especially as there was apparently never any barn here. The description, however, goes on to describe the fountain head as a "central arched niche with lion's head. 1859 plaque. Water outlet appears to be of medieval origin."

In the Village Plan of 1974, it appears on the supplementary list of "other buildings which the Secretary of State has agreed to include in the statutory list when it is revised" as a stone arch on the boundary wall on the north side of West Street. It would seem that the agreement has been honoured.
