Surgery, Market Street

A very convenient health centre for Abbotsbury folk, until the demands of economy and NHS regulations forced its closure in favour of a purpose-built health centre in Portesham. The same demanding requirements later closed the Bride Valley surgery, centralising all medical services for this scattered rural practice in Portesham, but the local butcher's shop continues to act as a collection point for prescriptions, and the village manages to keep up its car service to help patients keep their appointments.

The building has changed little since 1973, despite the best efforts of unskilled lorry drivers ~ but the signage on the gable wall has grown apace.
