(Grade II listed in 1956)
It seems a little curious, given that they all seem to be broadly about the same age, that all the houses on this western side of Market Street have dressed stone lintels like this one, while those on the eastern side have a variety of lintels, including brick and timber varieties. The answer may lie in the description of this house as 18th century with 20th century windows. The only other thing about it that seems to have changed in the last 30 years is the colour of the front door.
This house was once home to the Daubeney family: Mr Daubeney senior was the landlord of the Ilchester Arms at the time of the first World War, and one of his sons ran Chapel Farm from here. In those days, the house was well known in the village for the churn in the hallway, from which fresh milk was sold.
