3 Back Street

(Scheduled in the 1974 Village Plan as a building which the Secretary of State had agreed to include in the statutory list)

The house, named in the village plan list as "The Anchorage", was at one time occupied by Don and Norah Burden, but lay empty from 1977, until it was taken over in connection with the studio next door. Given the design of the entrance porch, it may once have been a passage house, i.e. a pair of houses with a common entrance.

It also boasts a segment of the Abbey, the fanged gargoyle high on the left-hand corner of the front wall, just visible in the left-hand photograph above.
